Thea and Chris are from Edmonton, Alberta – a part of the country not exactly known for breathtaking ocean vistas! They contacted us back in December, inquiring about photographing their upcoming July 2014 wedding at Cape Spear, Newfoundland. Outdoor weddings, especially in Newfoundland, are always dicey because of the unpredictable weather, but this couple wasn’t deterred. After all, getting married at the most easterly point in North America (and some say the most magical) has an allure all of its own. Luckily, the weather turned out fantastic and the wheels for a perfect day were set in motion.
On the day of the wedding, we first met Thea and Chris in a quaint chalet on the South Side Hills to photograph them in full preparation mode. From there, it was on to Cape Spear for the ceremony itself. A few days before, Thea and Chris had scoped out the spot they wished to get married on – they explained to us that is looked just like the Scottish landscape with the rolling hills, steep cliffs and ocean. Like the spot itself, the ceremony was relaxed and unrestrained – Chris even mentioned that if we needed to pause the ceremony to get a particular angle or lighting setup, that we were encouraged to do so!
After the ceremony, Thea and Chris wanted yet more wedding photos with a Newfoundland flavour, so off we went to the South Side Hills, where we captured some memorable shots using The Gut and the City of St. John’s as backdrops, followed by sessions at Cabot Tower and the picturesque Lower Battery. Hopefully their memory banks will be brimming!
Thea and Chris, thanks for choosing us to photograph your Cape Spear wedding.
We truly enjoyed getting to know the both of you and we hope you enjoyed your time in this province. Please return someday … Newfoundland has a way of beckoning!
