Living in St. John’s with its short wedding season means that every now and then you end up with a few double booked weekends, and this weekend was one of them. With Jon and Ainsley’s Pippy Park wedding concluding just hours previously, it was time to photograph Nomi and Andrew’s special day….and thank god for multiple batteries and memory cards. My camera gear was still warm from the previous day and I may or may not have had to recharge my half my batteries during Andrew’s getting ready haha.
You might remember Nomi and Andrew from a winter engagement session we did with them last year (read about it here). While it snowed during their entire session then, their wedding day was nothing but clear skies and warm temps. Ideal wedding weather.
Nomi and Andrew opted to have a first look. First looks are a nice change of pace, and for couples who’d prefer to have a late afternoon ceremony, it’s really the only way to get nice outdoor family and bridal party formals before the sun has set.
Nomi and Andrew had their wedding ceremony at Granite by Portobello’s located in downtown St. John’s. This is a relatively new restaurant, run by the same group that manages Portobello’s. It was mine and Allie’s first time in the newly remodelled venue; as you can imagine given the name of the restaurant, the granite and stone work plays a prominent design role here. And the views of the St. John’s harbor were fantastic. We also latter learned that it was the first wedding at the venue, so that was an exciting first.
Their wedding reception was held upstairs in the Portobello’s restaurant. As you can see from the photos, the views of the narrows are unparalleled.
One of the things I really like about restaurant receptions is that there’s a great atmosphere almost by default. Compared to a typical hotel reception, there’s very little decorating that needs to be done to make it look and feel like an intimate event. Oh, and the food? Spot. On. We’re looking forward to a lot of restaurant receptions in 2016!
On to the photographs!
