Laura and Benj were married in St. John’s, Newfoundland at the Salvation Army Corps St. John’s Temple on what could have been the hottest day of 2014. The only day that may have been warmer was the day previous, the day of the ceremony rehearsal. However, despite the sweltering heat, melting was not an option … not when family history was being made! Our goal was to leave Laura and Benj with a treasure trove of photographic memories of their special day.
We were quite excited to photograph this wedding. It’s always great when you have a wedding party that loves having their photos taken. There was no need to tell this group how to pose – they acted like old pros!
The day began for Laura and her Bridesmaids at Uptown Salon, where the hair transformations took place. From there, it was on to Laura’s Grandmother’s home for makeup, the donning of the wedding dress, and all those little touches that make the bridal metamorphosis complete.
We met Benj and the Groomsmen at the church and had a few quick moments to capture them before the ceremony started. It took about two seconds to realize that these guys were hilarious and would be a blast to photograph.
The ceremony went just as we believe they envisioned it … except when the Best Man “forgot” the rings. A funny touch and one that will live on to be retold during many future get-togethers, no doubt!
After family photos at Bowring Park, bridal party photos at Quidi Vidi and couples photos at the RCMP Headquarters in the White Hills, it was on to the Capital Hotel for the reception. It was our first time photographing a reception at this venue and we have to say, the staff did a great job setting up and decorating. Plus, it was nice of them to hold off letting anxious guests inside until we finished photographing the details. When the doors finally opened, it was clearly a case of “let the good times role”!
Laura, Benj and the guests were entertained by a number of memorable events throughout the evening, including “Pin the Nerf gun bullet on the kissing target”, “Whose legs are those?” and the musical offerings of a very bubbly Backstreet Boys cover band. So much fun!
Thank you Laura and Benj for the wonderful day – from start to finish everything was infused with your special “joie de vivre”. You guys bring hilarity to a whole new level. We wish you a wonderful life together, and may you laugh all the days of your life.
